Srirangam Srimad Andavan Ashram was established nearly 325 years back for the propagation of the Vasishtadhvaitham philosophy as propagated by Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja and Sri Nikamantha Maha Desika. There have been twelve Peetathipathies adorning this Ashramam (including the present Andavan Sri Varaha Maha Desikan also hailed from Srimushnam). The ashramam is engaged in many activities like renovation of old temples, publications of granthas, feeding poor people, offering Annathanam to pilgrims at various temples. In addition to this the ashramam runs Vedapatasalas for imparting Vedic knowledge and preparing Acharyas and Pandits in Vedas, Aaghamam, Purana and Sastras. To solve the purpose of above said projects, publications and service to humanity His Holiness Sri Vendantha Ramanuja Mahadesikan (Thirukudanthai Andavan) proposed a plan to start a trust in 1964. The trust was named Sri Ranganatha Padhuka Vidhyalaya Trust and came into existence in 1968. The trust comprise of vibrant members as Board of Trustees. At present Shri. N. Gopalaswami, IAS is the Chairman and Shri. Ammangi V. Balaji is the Secretary. The trust manages the activities of the Vedapadasalas all over India. In 1996, the trust established Srimad Andavan Arts & Science College in Trichy which strives to build a learning culture, responsive to the needs of the community at large through affordable value based education.
